My mother died when I was only seven
My mother died when I was only seven. I couldn't believe in a God that would deprive me of my dearly beloved parent, so I stopped praying. I was, however, sent to a Protestant Sunday School (although I didn't take it very seriously).
When I was ten I first learned about Christian Science and a book called Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. My introduction to Science gave me a glimpse of God which I found comforting, so I asked my father to let me buy a copy of Science and Health. He was somewhat amused, but he gave me the money for my first copy of the Christian Science textbook. After I bought it, I read a few chapters. But I didn't understand it, so I put the book aside.
It wasn't until I was seventeen that I met a Christian Scientist. She was pointed out to me at a birthday party. I didn't wait for an introduction but went and asked her to tell me about her religion. She told me a little and then invited me to Sunday School.
