A schoolteacher's prayer
My prayer for progress is according to Mrs. Eddy's statement "Each successive period of progress is a period more humane and spiritual." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 26.
From what basis do I pray? That God, eternal, unerring Mind, infinite Love, creates man in His own likeness, spiritual and complete; and that His Christ, the idea of Truth, teaches, counsels, and embraces humanity, revealing man's real nature as God's reflection.
I pray that in my work as a teacher I may foster an atmosphere that promotes progress for myself, my students, and my colleagues—an atmosphere more like that created by the presence of angels. This atmosphere, this divine influence in human consciousness, is manifest in expectancy of good, in receptiveness to divine direction, in support, understanding, forgiveness. And I pray to be delivered from creating an atmosphere that chokes progress—an atmosphere of hurry, impatience, mediocrity, conflict.
