Delivery refused

[Original in German]

Nina was sad when her mother came to her bed to say good night. "Mommy, I'm having trouble in gym classes. Whenever I run or jump, the sole of my foot hurts." And she showed Mother that on the bottom of her foot there were several raw spots.

While Mother was thinking how to help Nina, she recalled what she had heard in a Christian Science lecture a few days before. The lecturer had said that mortal beliefs were like C.O.D. shipments. And of course we don't have to accept or pay for something we don't want. Nina and her mother pictured what would happen if the postman rang the doorbell to give them a C.O.D. shipment that they hadn't ordered. They asked each other, "Do we accept such a shipment and pay for it?" "No, most definitely not."

These spots under Nina's foot were nothing more than mortal beliefs that had not been ordered, Nina and Mother decided, because they did not come from God. And what does the postman do when he finds out that nobody wants the parcel? He writes a note on it, "Delivery refused," and returns it to the sender.
