My birth left my mother a semi-invalid
My birth left my mother a semi-invalid. Sometime after this my father was telling an acquaintance about how sick his wife was, and this man said, "Why don't you try Christian Science?" That was the first my parents had heard of Science. They soon got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help. In a few days my mother was feeling much better; able to do her housework and care for her children. Before long she was completely well—and remained so.
The Bible tells us (Eccl. 3:14): "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him." To me this great promise means that none of the good—health, joy, purity, and so forth—can be taken from us.
When one of my brothers was working in a lumberyard, his hip got crushed in an accident with a lumber cart. Before my mother heard about it, he was rushed to a hospital. When he was released, the doctors said they had done all they possibly could for him. He came home with one leg shorter than the other.
