The immediate availability of God's help
A study of the Bible, especially the accounts of Christ Jesus' ministry, provides us with much inspiration and practical guidance for living in accord with God's law. In both the Old and New Testaments the reader cannot help being impressed by the many examples of how men and women who trusted implicitly in the immediate availability of God's care were protected and saved.
The teachings of Christian Science confirm the scriptural promise, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Ps. 46:1. The textbook, Science and Health written by Mrs. Eddy, reveals the all-embracing efficacy of divine Love to meet human needs in any situation or condition. Wherever we are—no matter how remote from the possibility of human assistance, or even if human aid should be close at hand—we have a divine source of help that is always present to provide the healing, regenerating truth we need. And though human help may be slow to arrive and uncertain of results, the power of God can be proved to be quick and sure, unfailing, regardless of the emergency. Christ, the transforming message of divine Love, is as close as our prayers, ever ready to comfort us when in sorrow, to cast out pain, and to uplift and save the individual from sin.
In the healing ministry of the greatest of all healers, we see that Christ Jesus' work was marked by its instant effects. The Gospels tell us that a man's leprosy was healed immediately. A palsied man; a woman who had been sick for twelve years; a man incapacitated for thirty-eight years; a woman crippled for eighteen years—all healed, restored to soundness by the Saviour, immediately!
