Many years ago my mother suffered from nervous prostration. A doctor had predicted for her a life of semi-invalidism. But my mother could not accept this verdict. Some years before, when we lived in Texas she had learned of Christian Science. (Because my father was a sea captain and away much of the time, my mother had often feared for his safety. She had purchased a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and on reading it had found comfort.) Now, in this time of need, my mother phoned a neighbor who was a Christian Scientist and was told she could call on a Christian Science practitioner for help.

When I left for school one morning my mother was ill and in bed. But when I came home that afternoon, a Christian Science practitioner was there, and Mother was up, dressed, and much better. The healing progressed until she was completely well. Afterward, Mother spent many years in the business world and was active in branch church work, eventually becoming a practitioner herself, with listing in The Christian Science Journal.

There have been many healings in my own family, including those of a severe case of what appeared to be eczema, total deafness in one ear, sinus trouble, and claustrophobia. A very trying family situation was harmonized when it was understood that there is only one Mind; homes have been found and job changes have been worked out beautifully—all through prayer in Christian Science. Also, our son was quickly healed of various so-called childhood diseases and has received support, through the help of a Christian Science practitioner, during difficult periods in his adult life.
