"How is it that ye sought me?"

There is an account in Luke regarding Mary, who, returning with Joseph and her son from the Feast of the Passover in Jerusalem, missed the twelve-year-old Jesus. After she and Joseph had searched for him for three days, they discovered him in the temple, "sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions." When Mary asked him why he had treated them like that, Jesus answered with a question of his own: "How is it that ye sought me?" See Luke 2:41–49. Jesus' question has come to me with inspiration on many occasions.

As a naval officer, our son travels widely. One time we did not hear from him for many days. This was most unusual. My husband, a retired naval officer, knew our son's destination well and spoke forebodingly of the area, recounting things he had seen and known firsthand from his own tours there. After gulping down this information, I had little peace. However, we all have choices to make. Do we accept what the world presents to us for acceptance as the fact? Or do we choose what Truth tells us through Christian Science?

Soon I recalled a sentence from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "Spiritual man is the image or idea of God, an idea which cannot be lost nor separated from its divine Principle." Science and Health, p. 303. As I begun to understand and feel the truth of this statement, comfort came. And soon after this we received word from our son that all was well.
