Feeling God's love
Have you ever been tempted to feel lonely and then seen a sign that says, "Smile. God loves you"?
Do these words comfort us or do they give us a martyred sense of self-pity? "Well, even if no one else cares about me, at least God does." If that's our reaction, then we need a better understanding of how God's love can unite us more joyfully with others.
Often when we feel lonely we're told that we should express more love ourselves. And usually it's true that we do need to be more genuinely loving to others. But what if we're already doing the best we know how in expressing true lovingkindness, and yet still feel alone? Perhaps there's a deeper lesson for us to learn.
