"Judge righteous judgment"

A son of an acquaintance has been having a problem with drug abuse. A couple I know are living together unmarried. At a recent party I attended, I heard two men talking about not reporting all their income on their tax returns. Probably all of us know of similar situations involving ethical or moral questions. So how should we think of those involved in immoral or illicit activities?

In her Message to The Mother Church for 1901 the Discoverer of Christian Science gives this remarkable statement on evil's nature: "Evil is neither quality nor quantity: it is not intelligence, a person or a principle, a man or a woman, a place or a thing, and God never made it." Message for 1901, pp. 12-13.

To the student of Christian Science, this statement of Mrs. Eddy's illumines the scientific way to deal with evil—to clearly understand that it is no part of man, who is the image and likeness of God. To the degree we understand this revealed truth, we are able to condemn the evil, or error, but love man (the real man God made). The key to healing is learning how to silently (mentally) separate the claim of evil from our concept of man, and replace the erroneous view with the spiritual counter fact of man's goodness and perfection.
