Aspects of the healing Christ
The term "Christ" is used in Christian Science in very specific ways. Attention to these uses helps us expand our understanding of the life of Christ Jesus, of salvation and the related role of spiritual healing, and of the true nature of God, man, and reality.
This article examines the immense subject of Christ only briefly. Mary Baker Eddy's writings on the topic are available for each individual to pore over; and her works, especially Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, open one's thought to the spiritual meaning of biblical topics in unique and powerful ways. One's own study of the particular meanings assigned by Christian Science to the term "Christ" quickens one's healing ability and spurs yet further study and demonstration of divine Science.
Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has revealed Christ as the spiritual idea of God, which through its healing and purifying action in human consciousness brings salvation to every receptive individual. Her inspired explanations of Christ open the student's way to the very spirituality for which the ages have waited. Because of her deep prayer and communion with God and her demonstrations of the truth of being through healing sin and sickness, Mrs. Eddy's scientific explanations of Christ carry the authority of revelation and proof. Today we can study and demonstrate the Christ Science; we can grasp onto and feel the same spirituality—the same Christ-spirit—that inspired Abraham, Moses, Elijah, and others. Thus we are enabled to prove, to some extent, that history and time have not dimmed divine reality.
