I did not take up the study of Christian Science for healing, but because its logic appealed to me. I had always loved the Bible and believed that God is Life. When I read my first copy of the Sentinel, I realized that Christian Science teaches that God is man's life. After this, I subscribed to the Sentinel and spent many evenings reading issues of it. I also worked to practice what I was learning. Soon I purchased a copy of our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

At one time I burned the back of my hand. The area then became infected. So I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer. I knew that, as Christ Jesus said (John 8:32), "ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

One day I said to myself, What was I thinking when that hot grease splattered on my hand? I could see that I had been filled with self-righteous indignation. I felt that this was my problem, and I thought, "It is not worth it." So I simply let the self-righteousness go; and as soon as I did, healing started to take place. Mrs. Eddy writes of God in " 'Feed My Sheep'" (Poems, p. 14):
