The naturalness of abundance

Not long after Christ Jesus' crucifixion, Peter and several other disciples decided to try their hand being fishermen again. After spending all night at sea they had not caught a single fish. Toward morning they saw Jesus standing on the shore. At first they didn't recognize him, but they responded to his instruction to cast their net on the right side of the ship. In a short time they caught more fish than they could pull in. On their arrival at land, Jesus invited them to eat of the bread and fish already prepared on shore. See John 21:1-13 .

Many times before, the disciples had witnessed similar proofs of their Master's power to help and heal. He had taught them that the Christ heals. When they saw Jesus on the shore, the disciples' desire to turn from matter to Spirit was rekindled. They heeded their Master's divinely inspired guidance. The results were instant.

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, describes this radical change: "Convinced of the fruitlessness of their toil in the dark and wakened by their Master's voice, they changed their methods, turned away from material things, and cast their net on the right side." Science and Health, p. 35.
