One beautiful Sunday afternoon, my husband and I had just attended the service at our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and were looking for a new restaurant for brunch. We were in a small car, traveling through an empty area of our city. Suddenly we were hit head-on by a large station wagon. When I saw what was about to happen I closed my eyes, sat up very straight, and just said, "God!" I knew He was right there. After the crash, I opened my eyes and noticed that the windshield was shattered and, looking down at my skirt, noticed that it had a drop of blood on it.

When the paramedics arrived with the police, they expressed great concern and asked if I wanted to go to the hospital. I told them, "No, I'm a Christian Scientist." They were very kind and gave me some wet gauze squares so that I could wipe my forehead. Aside from my head, the only other areas injured were my leg, which was bruised when it hit the glove box, and a scratch on the top of my husband's head. The paramedics told me that my head had gone through the windshield. At hearing this I said, "No, I didn't budge from the seat." But that was apparently what had happened to mortal sense.

We took a taxi home as the car had to be towed away—it was a total loss. Upon arriving home, my husband washed my forehead and combed slivers of glass from my hair. I then called a Christian Science practitioner, who immediately agreed to help me.
