Around the year 1915 my mother was healed instantaneously through Christian Science. Mother had been ill and in bed for more than three months. The doctors were not able to help her in any way. News that Mother was not expected to live reached a Christian Scientist she had met earlier. The Scientist called our home and left a message with the day nurse telling Mother that she did not have to accept what was being said about her. Mother thought about this for the rest of the day and all night. Next morning, when the day nurse came back on duty, Mother asked her to telephone the Scientist and ask her to come, which she did. The woman talked to her about God's love for His children and explained that He does not send sickness. Mother had never heard of this religion and said that she did not know what the woman was talking about, but soon she knew she was well. Mother got up, dressed, and ate dinner with her family. The following Sunday we all went to the local branch Church of Christ, Scientist, where my brother and I were enrolled in the Sunday School.

Later, when my brother was instantly healed of the croup through Christian Science treatment, Dad threw out all the medicine in our home. From that time on our family attended the church and had many healings.

When a child of about ten, I fell from a tree and landed on the back of my head and neck. It appeared that vertebrae had been pushed out of place. Mother called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. I quickly regained consciousness and was released from pain, but for a few days I did not have free use of my arms. I do not remember exactly what I was asked to study in the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but I do remember Mother reading to me. On page 424 the textbook states: "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." Proof of this truth was seen in a complete healing with no aftereffects. Through the years I took ballet, rode horseback every day, played tennis, and took gym at school. And there was never the slightest trouble with my back.
