The first time I realized the truth that God does not know of accidents,...

The first time I realized the truth that God does not know of accidents, I was taking a flight up north to visit one of my sons. As we approached the airport, the pilot did not land the plane but kept circling. Finally, he announced over the intercom that the wheels were locked and that we would have to make an emergency landing. The stewardesses proceeded to instruct us what to do, what exits to use, and how to slide down the chutes in quick order when we landed.

I was new in Christian Science at that time and had been working with a Christian Science practitioner in my study of Science. She had said she would "work" for me during my trip. I did not know quite what that meant until I felt a peace within me on the plane. The comfort and support of the practitioner's work, or prayer, were apparent from then on.

Along with the reassurance the practitioner had given me, my own thoughts kept me calm and without fear, too. I knew that God fills all space, that He was right there with us, and that no harm could come to His children. The thought came loudly and clearly that there are no accidents with God. I clung to that truth as we approached the runway. Although the wheels had finally come down, they were still locked. The runway had been spread with foam to keep friction to a minimum. Fire engines and ambulances were lined up on both sides in case of fire and injury. Despite the seeming inharmony and discord, we were able to land safely, without harm to anyone.
