"I have chosen you"
If you had lived at the time of Christ Jesus, would you have been chosen to follow him in his great work of establishing Christianity? Or, if you had lived at the turn of the last century, would you have perceived the courageous mission of that spiritual pioneer Mary Baker Eddy—and felt called to help in establishing her Church?
These are vital questions. For the call of Christ is not a matter of the age in which we live or of how much spirituality we feel we do or don't possess. It's a matter of receptivity to and hunger for Truth.
Imagine what it must have meant to those devout Jews awaiting the Messiah to know that the Christ had come! They were firsthand witnesses to Christ's healing power. Then the resurrection proved with positive certainty that life is in God, that being is spiritual, eternal. How very natural—perhaps even inevitable—it was for the disciples to leave all and follow in the footsteps of Christ Jesus, spreading the glorious gospel of salvation.
