Christian Science became the way of Life for my mother and me...

Christian Science became the way of Life for my mother and me over sixty-five years ago. At the time Mother was suffering with recurring attacks of pain, each one more severe than the last. The physician who attended her said that she should have an immediate operation for appendicitis, but that her heart was not strong enough to stand it. Her eldest sister, on hearing of this verdict, immediately posted her an issue of the Sentinel. Mother read it from cover to cover with joy, and she was healed instantly. There were no more attacks of appendicitis.

Mother then wrote to her sister, telling her the good news and requesting a copy of the book referred to so often in the Sentinel. This was, of course, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. At that time we lived on a farm quite a distance from the nearest country town, so there was no branch Church of Christ, Scientist, to attend. But soon my mother and I were both studying Science and Health and the Bible Lessons from the Christian Science Quarterly.

Some years later I started taking piano lessons, which necessitated a weekly twenty-mile round-trip drive with one of my parents. I loved these music lessons. And with the freedom from fear or worry that the study of Christian Science brought my life, I felt no burden or hardship about my study of music. For the next three years I received high marks in the yearly music examinations, and I began to give lessons to young students who lived in the country. As the examinations became more advanced, I asked for and received wonderful help through prayer from a Christian Science practitioner.
