University and College Organizations Meeting 1982

Mary Baker Eddy's design for The Mother Church in the Manual of The Mother Church includes Christian Science organizations at colleges and universities. These organizations have a unique and vital mission: to fulfill the healing purpose of the church in the academic community. An international meeting, to be held at The Mother Church in Boston August 2 through 4, 1982, will be dedicated to furthering this Manual-based mission.

The theme of this meeting is taken from the story of Nehemiah: "Let us rise up and build." Why? Because fulfilling the healing purpose of the organization is a matter of spiritual building—growing individually and growing together with a shared purpose. The Bible and our Leader's writings give us the basis upon which to do just this. But what does it mean specifically to build on this basis and to confront the pressing personal, moral, and professional questions in college and university life today with a healing spiritual realism?

This is the underlying question we will explore together at our meeting. Those who will be joining in the meeting are: members of college orgs; students or faculty who regularly attend org meetings; anyone eligible to form, conduct, or participate in an org in 1982 (including faculty); Christian Scientists who graduated from a college or university after 1977; org advisors; and Christian Science Campus Counselors.
