I am particularly grateful for a healing our infant...

I am particularly grateful for a healing our infant daughter experienced. One morning I noticed a swelling on the side of her face. I prayed for her that afternoon but became very fearful, so I called a Christian Science practitioner for help. I told the practitioner that I was afraid the baby had been stung by a scorpion. (I had harbored a terrible fear of scorpions for some time—especially after my husband told me he had recently found one in the house.)

The practitioner asked me to consider the child's innate purity and innocence. At first these two spiritual qualities seemed weak and ineffectual in the face of such a frightening physical picture. But as time went on, my understanding of these words grew, and ultimately I was able to bear witness to a most marvelous demonstration of God's healing power.

By the second day the swelling had increased. Now, the practitioner recommended that I read the chapter "Christian Science Practice" in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and that I apply every rule for healing I found in that chapter to the problem at hand. This I did over the next three days.
