Some time ago I injured my knee

Some time ago I injured my knee. Immediately I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner for help. She gave me some wonderful statements of truth that sustained me, and she pointed out the need to challenge the general religious belief about man being separated from God and trying to get back to Him. There was great improvement, and I was able to continue the work on my own.

Later, however, when the condition flared up again, my husband (who is not a Christian Scientist) announced that he had made an appointment for me to see a doctor that afternoon. I went, and the doctor's diagnosis was horrifying. Because of the severity of the case, he said I should have an operation immediately and recommended that I see an orthopedic surgeon without delay. He proceeded to write a letter (to the surgeon) stating that the ligaments were torn and the nerves damaged, and that there was evidence of water on the knee. The doctor then warned me that if I did not have an operation, I would regret it bitterly. I felt very fearful and trapped.

That night I prayed to know what to do; it came to me to contact my Christian Science teacher, which I did first thing in the morning. After I told him my tale of woe, he reassured me with this lovely passage from Isaiah, which says of God (45:23): "I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear." He said we would work together to bow to God's authority and not to that of the medical profession.
