God is our source of help

Many are deeply concerned about the need to expand respect for human rights in the world—and we should be. But what about the expansion of individual rights at home? What kind of rights should husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters have?

In Christian Science, home is not just a human abode but our actual belonging-place in God, where there is love, understanding, and peace. Doesn't that sound like the description of heavenly harmony? It is. "Then why aren't we experiencing more of this promised heavenliness?" a woman asked. After having done all she could, she still felt victimized by antagonistic criticism and domination, instigated primarily by religious differences between her and her husband.

When it was intimated more than once that perhaps she should think of choosing between her church and her home, she became both fearful and steadfast. She was fearful that her home might be broken up, and steadfast because she felt she had the privilege, even a duty, to insist on her spiritual rights.
