While my wife and I were away on a holiday I suffered a stroke. Fortunately I was able to ask a stranger to call a Christian Science practitioner who came within minutes to help me.
The practitioner first assured me that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I heard this barely and held to it the best I could. Then, since there was no nursing facility for Christian Scientists in the small town where we were staying, he arranged for me to be taken to a hospital nearby. Among other things, he arranged for my wife (who was using a wheelchair) to be cared for, got in touch with my daughter by long-distance telephone, and called a practitioner I know near our home.
Minutes later, when I was being checked into the hospital, I heard the practitioner say, "This man is a Christian Scientist and wants no medication." Just the right instructions, and it was reassuring to me. I wanted only God's care. I felt the strength of the practitioner's healing thought.
