Where do I come from?

This question and similar ones—Why am I here? Where am I going?—present themselves to most of us at some time or other. They hint at the unsatisfied longing to find a rock on which to build life, to establish identity, to secure the geography of consciousness.

Such questions may also be an attempt to trace the origins of limited possibilities or pitfalls along the way. Suppose an individual feels he has inherited a weak body, ridden with disease, a mentality laden with frustrations and doubts, or a history of poverty and lack that makes these limitations seem insurmountable? A Bible verse from the book of Isaiah gives these words of assurance: "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else." Isa. 45:22.

Christian Science, which is in accord with the Bible, offers a spiritual solution to the puzzlement and din of belief in many minds, many physiques, many personalities, all vying with one another for place and status. In founding Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy moved beyond the category of one mortal trying to help others to be and do good. She desired to lift thought to God as the one, unlimited cause, and man as His limitless effect—a cause and effect distinct in function but forever one in being.
