What's logical about mental depression?

Is depression ever desirable or good? Surely no one wants to be downcast. And there is no reason to be or to remain depressed when, through the study and application of biblical truths, we can resolve or dissipate the problems that are troubling us. Throughout the Bible are passages that uplift thought from despondency; promises and proofs that God sustains us always. The Psalmist assures us, "The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down." Ps. 145:14.

God is good only, and He is All. Christian Science enables us to prove God's unfailing goodness and our consequent freedom from evil, because we are actually His children. His omnipresence, when acknowledged and affirmed, banishes all that is not good. Healing prayer is one of firm recognition of God's allness and omnipotence, and denial of the so-called power or reality of any adverse circumstance. Since God is good, neither adversity, nor the depression that seems to result from it, is or can be the reality of man's being.

Mrs. Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, "God, good, being ever present, it follows in divine logic that evil, the suppositional opposite of good, is never present." Science and Health, p. 72.
