Sarah slid off the car seat, hopped to the ground, and slammed the car door shut. It was a hot afternoon, a half hour before camp pickup time. Sarah and her mother had come to watch her brother Bill play soccer.
Without waiting for her mother, Sarah ran ahead barefoot to the open grassy meadow where a lot of teams were playing. Bill called these games the afternoon scrimmages.
He had told Sarah that every morning at soccer camp they learned and practiced lots of skills—dribbling, heading the ball, and kicking goals.
