First things first
You? Yes, I considered you:
My daughter, my son.
And you? Yes, I remembered
My good friend.
But You? YOU!
You I forgot; and almost paid dearly
Until I was pulled up short
By an angel, saying:
FATHER-MOTHER GOD—
FIRST CAUSE
FIRST OF ALL FIRSTS.
Then swiftly, surely,
Thought flowed into action,
Reason became luminous hope,
And motive turned to clear resolve
(Making one strong fortress,
Excluding idle dreams)
Thus changing stagnant ways
To living of eternal praise.
