In tender mercy

"Through the harsh noises of our day, /A low sweet prelude finds its way," Christian Science Hymnal, No. 238. a loved hymn assures us. Christian Science can furnish this "low sweet prelude" in troubled lives, whether the problem be sickness, sorrow, lack, confusion, or fear.

Out of his profound Christliness, the Master, Christ Jesus, comforted the struggling, the suffering, the harassed. He is our shower of the way. We can follow him. The Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, teach how. They awaken us to the way of pure spirituality, which always is tender and healing.

We've all seen plants put down deep roots, thrive, and bloom gloriously in soil that is well cultivated, fertilized, and mellow. In a hard, uncultivated soil those same plants do not prosper. So it is with every one of us. In the tender, spiritually nourished, well-cultivated soil of spiritual thinking, character deepens and blooms. We gain the warmth of Christly love that can touch the cold, hard, suffering thought one sometimes encounters. Sickness, sin—any mortal misery—can melt in the atmosphere of Christly tenderness. Why? Because genuine tenderness is real; it touches the very heart of reality, divine Love. The harsh, chill atmosphere of a mortal sense of things is totally unreal, baseless.
