"And they all lived happily ever after"
So say the fairy tales. We close the book and drift off into dreams.
But wait a moment!
Although we all love happy endings, we often learn that signing the marriage certificate doesn't instantly transport us into a state of eternal bliss; that writing the last final exam doesn't establish soaring freedom; and that the longed-for healing doesn't suddenly translate us into a state of permanent health and desire to help others. During our preparation and waiting for the wedding, the exam, the healing, we may have believed that these goals were ends in themselves and that afterward we would have a greater sense of dominion. But it doesn't always work out that way.
