God, the only Life of man

The understanding that God is the only Life and Soul of man doesn't in any way exclude man. What this divine understanding does exclude is evil, error of any form, anything that is unlike God. The onliness of God is the wonderful fact of the allness of good, which man reflects. In other words, man expresses good, and nothing but good. There is no alternative to this fact. Whatever is unlike good is not man. There is no alternate life or condition or circumstance. There are no ups of good and downs of not-so-good.

"It is objected to Christian Science that it claims God as the only absolute Life and Soul," Mary Baker Eddy notes, "and man to be His idea,—that is, His image." In the same paragraph the Founder of Christian Science asks, "Is it sacrilegious to assume that God's likeness is not found in matter, sin, sickness, and death?" Science and Health, p. 344.

The scientifically spiritual fact that God, Spirit, is the only Life of man is the basis for understanding and demonstrating health. Recognizing that God is the only Life, we turn from exploring matter and disease to exploring Life in our attempts to rid mankind of sickness and suffering. Recognizing God as the only Soul of man, we turn from the operations and perversions of sin to studying the perfect Principle of man.
