We are loved

When faced with a troubling situation, we sometimes feel all alone in this world. God may seem too far away to hear us, and friends too busy or too selfish to care. Self-pity and self-condemnation, frustration and resentment, become deceptive sources of comfort. When we accept sadness, hurt, anger, or hatred, we usually end up being afraid. And fear is a main root of sin and disease. To fear is to admit that there are other causes and powers than God, who is Truth and Love; that man is physique; and that life is temporary.

Mrs. Eddy tells us, however: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Science and Health, p. 468. Christian Science teaches that perfect God creates perfect man, good and spiritual. There can be no space in perfection for errors; no sins in good; no matter in Spirit. Man, as the perfect spiritual image of God, enjoys a divinely bestowed birthright as God's heir—cared for, loved, and protected by his Father-Mother. Mrs. Eddy defines God as "the great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." Ibid., p. 587.

Would you let your loved ones suffer or be confused if there was anything at all you could do about it? Would God, who is Life and Love, leave you and me to struggle along on our own? "It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle," Mrs. Eddy reminds us, "which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony." Ibid., p. 390.
