I've always been very grateful for having been brought up with Christian Science, and for a mother who taught me at an early age to use the spiritual truths I was learning for healing.

Mary Baker Eddy says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 369): "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood." This seems to have been the case in our family. My husband is also a student of Christian Science; and while raising our four children, we both have relied on God entirely.

One healing in our family was especially gratifying. When our youngest child was in junior high school, he wanted to play football at school. In order for him to participate, the school required a physical examination. Our son came home after the examination and said that I was to bring him back to the doctor's office. When I did, the doctor informed me that our son had a serious heart murmur and recommended that he have an operation at once. He also offered the name of a surgeon and urged us to call him immediately to schedule surgery. I said we were Christian Scientists and would like to work out this problem through Christian Science. He stated that reading a bunch of words wasn't going to help.
