The Comforter—Christ over crisis

Few things are more cozy than sinking into the softness of a feather bed under a down comforter. This is a pleasant memory I have of a visit to Europe. An earnest study of Psalm 91, however, brings a much deeper sense of well-being: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. ... He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust." Ps. 91:1,4;

Such study marked the beginning of a permanent healing of longstanding loneliness, insecurity, and self-depreciation. I found the Comforter, promised in the Bible, in a spiritual understanding of God's "feathers." The love, protection, and strength of the omnipotent Parent, God, are available to all who seek His comfort.

Throughout history, men and women have sought permanent security from many sources. In this present time of threatened values, unsettled economy, crime and violence, well-being might appear more elusive than ever before. "Things are not what they used to be" is the sad verdict of many. But we all can look deeper and work harder to perceive evidence of the Christ, Truth.
