God's parenthood
God is the only parent, the one divine Parent who cares for all His creation.
Realizing this lifts any overburdened sense of responsibility for our children's welfare. Reliance on the spiritual fact of God's parenthood enables us to be buoyant but dutiful mothers and fathers.
We need to start by consistently spiritualizing our thoughts. In outlining the method of preventing and curing disease through the power of Truth, Mrs. Eddy writes, "If the case is that of a young child or an infant, it needs to be met mainly through the parent's thought, silently or audibly on the aforesaid basis of Christian Science." Science and Health, p. 412; Although Mrs. Eddy is speaking here of healing work in a particular instance, this statement can be a useful reminder to us to pray every day for ourselves and for our children, knowing that we and they are kept "as the apple of his eye," Deut. 32:10; safe in God's father-motherhood, always upheld by Him.
