In 1910 my mother's sister was under medical treatment for a nervous condition. The doctor, unable to help her, gave her the card of a Christian Science practitioner. Through scientific prayer my aunt was healed, and this so impressed my mother that she requested treatment by a practitioner for my brother. He was healed of a cough that had been pronounced incurable by the medical profession.
My family's whole way of life changed after the entrance of Christian Science into our lives. My mother became an earnest student, and we children were enrolled in Sunday School. With our new awareness of man's status as the child of God, healing was manifested in more abundant supply, better morals, physical problems overcome, and better schooling.
Several years ago I was fertilizing rosebushes with barnyard manure when I caught the back of my hand on a large thorn. Afraid of infection, I spent that night restless and sleepless, and by morning the hand was inflamed and swollen. That day I diligently applied this Bible passage from Proverbs (3:5, 6): "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." I realized that God's law is my protection from every material condition. By evening the hand had returned to normal size, and there was no more pain.
