In 1973 I was confronted with severe pain in one side and hemorrhaging. My roommate at the time was a medical nurse, and I was concerned about what her attitude might be if she became aware of the problem. Also, it was imperative that I be at work during this period, so I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me. Her calm assurance of God's love for me and the absolute nothingness of error of any kind brought a great sense of peace. All concern as to what this problem might be and how long it might last simply vanished. I learned that no matter what the difficulty seemed to be, it was no part of God's creation; hence it was not real and was absolutely powerless to affect me in any way.

I saw, too, that my roommate was a child of God, just as I was, and that in reality, as an expression of infinite, divine Mind, she could see and know only good. This ended my worry over what she might do or say about certain choices I made in my own life. I felt sure that God's love was the common element that governed both of us, and that there could never be a clash or conflict in the presence of divine Love. Within two days I was completely healed, and my friend never even knew there had been a challenge.

I attended a Christian Science Sunday School somewhat sporadically while I was growing up; nevertheless, the seeds of spiritual understanding were planted and later able to germinate. I am very grateful for my mother's insistence that my brother and I be exposed to the teachings of Science.
