Infection dispelled through awareness of God's enveloping love

A healing that has meant a lot to me occurred soon after I became acquainted with Christian Science. I was mowing my lawn one day, when the mower picked up a piece of braided wire and threw a strand about an inch long through my pant leg and into my shin. I gave this little thought and finished the mowing. However, within a few days the wound became infected.

As I had no desire to seek medical attention, I asked the friend who had introduced me to Science to put me in touch with a Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner I talked to agreed to take the case. He quieted my fear and gave me citations from the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to read and ponder.

Yet the infection seemed to worsen, and the pain was severe. But I kept in contact with the practitioner, who continued his prayer, and I read the Bible and Science and Health faithfully. Nevertheless, when the symptoms appeared especially serious, I felt I had reached a crossroads, and that the alternate route was medical treatment. I began to ask myself just what I had learned of Christian Science and whether it was really able to help me.
