"I denied that there is powerful malice afoot in the world today"
The task of a prophet is to perceive real, spiritual facts, and to see the unreality of false evidence laid out, oftentimes so convincingly, by material sense. Mrs. Eddy defines "prophet" as "a spiritual seer; disappearance of material sense before the conscious facts of spiritual Truth" (Science and Health, p. 593). I am learning to discount lies of mortal mind by weighing them against the standard of God's perfection and His perfect reflection, man.
The necessity of trusting the spiritual facts of being in the very face of an erroneous portrayal of man as mortal and dishonest was brought home to me recently.
I was making an overnight visit to friends in a large metropolitan city. We went to a movie that night and came out into the parking lot where we had left the car, to find one of the windows shattered by a rock and my suitcase, which had been on the back seat, gone. Another bag in the car, which had not been taken, contained my wallet. I was grateful for this protection.
