Jeremy wasn't a very happy little boy. He didn't feel at all well, and his mom was concerned. She decided to phone a Christian Science practitioner for help, and the practitioner said she would like to come and see Jeremy at his home, because he was staying in bed.

When the practitioner arrived, Jeremy's mother went out to do some errands, and the practitioner sat down for a chat with him. She asked him how he liked school. He answered that he didn't like it much, because the children weren't very nice to him. Before she set out to see Jeremy, the practitioner had prayed to know how she could help him, and now she felt God directing her to ask Jeremy about his feelings whenever he was punished for doing something wrong. With startling anger, Jeremy sputtered, "Nobody's going to punish me, because I'd sure give it back—only harder." And he raised his fists to show how he would do it. At this point Jeremy coughed quite a bit.

The practitioner then gently asked Jeremy if he realized that people were only trying to help him do better and that their love for him was probably the reason for correction. After all, the Bible says of Christ Jesus that because he "loved righteousness, and hated iniquity," God anointed him "with the oil of gladness." Heb. 1:9; Iniquities are wrong thoughts and actions, and it was the iniquities Jesus didn't like—not the people!
