Some twenty-five years ago I was being treated by a doctor for angina. The treatment brought me no relief, and after two years of suffering I was becoming depressed by the constant pain and the fear that I would have to suffer it until I passed on. Then a friend recommended that I try Christian Science, and she advised me to contact a practitioner.

I had no idea what Christian Science treatment involved, but I was willing to try it. I went to see a practitioner that same day. She talked to me of God and my relationship to Him, but very kindly made it clear to me that I couldn't sit back and leave all the healing work to her. It was my part to study in order to understand Truth, and to have faith that I would be healed. Our visit was the most wonderful experience I had ever known.

The practitioner gave me daily prayerful treatment, and I was pursuing my own study of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, where I came across these life-giving words (Science and Health, p. 393): "Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death. Exercise this God-given authority. Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man."
