Before I knew of Christian Science I had a skin disease on my foot for many years, accompanied by severe itching. Then I deepened my understanding of Christian Science, and this brought increased spiritual enlightenment. I thought of the foot condition and had an earnest desire to see it healed.

In praying, I began with the truth that God, Spirit, is the only power and the cause of all that really exists. With this conviction, right at the beginning of my treatment the false concept that God could not possibly heal disappeared. I was glad to gain this clear picture of true cause and effect. I then contemplated man's perfect, spiritual identity as God's likeness. Finally I saw that in divine Mind no irritation occurs. That which irritates or reacts is mortal mind. As an expression of divine Mind, I cannot feel irritation or reaction.

Through this logic, my consciousness was turned to God, and I gained a more spiritualized understanding of myself. I felt I was healed. The fact that the spiritual is all that is true filled me with joy. I didn't have to look at the foot to have the healing confirmed, for I knew that Mind alone governs me. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 460): "Our system of Mind-healing rests on the apprehension of the nature and essence of all being,—on the divine Mind and Love's essential qualities. Its pharmacy is moral, and its medicine is intellectual and spiritual, though used for physical healing." On a later occasion I noticed there was no evidence of the skin disease. My foot was completely healed and has remained so.
