Foundation work

I once lived in a large city when a skyscraper was being built nearby. The care, labor, and time involved in laying its foundation were impressive. Pile drivers worked long hours, sinking the supporting pilings deep to bedrock.

A sound foundation is important—not just for a building, but for a business, a family, a government; for freedom, health, happiness. The Bible teaches that there is a spiritual base undergirding all reality. The Psalmist affirmed: "Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 593;

How comforting it is to remember that we are grounded on a rock. Our security is Truth itself. Through our loving Father's grace, operating as the Christ—Immanuel, or "God with us"—we can find Truth expressed in the specific way we need. It may be in the smile of a friend encouraging us, or in a Bible verse, full of comfort and strength. Perhaps a stillness wells up from deep within us, calming concern. Whatever form Truth's care takes, true security always originates in God.
