Neither captor nor captive

The world presents captivity in many forms: political hostage-taking, captivity imposed by totalitarian regimes, economic captivity of the poor, captivity of ignorance and fear, and many other examples.

But through Christian Science we can obtain a demonstrable understanding of God and His ever-operative laws that free. We can begin by recognizing that God's love for all His children is ever present and ever active. Man, God's reflection, is never captive nor captor. This spiritual man is Mind's intelligent expression, evidencing the infinite wisdom of Mind, as well as the mercy and love that characterize God and all His ideas. The Christ works unrestrained in the consciousness of all mankind, revealing to each one the truth of being.

In the case of hostage-taking, the captors are just as captive as those they hold hostage, in that the captors are bound by lawlessness and emotionalism. Aggressive methods may be the only way they know to seek redress; they are probably unaware that they can resort to God, Principle. Yet God's laws of love and justice are ceaselessly fulfilling and enforcing His will throughout the universe. These laws are a force of deliverance, bringing all forms of injustice, hate, and ignorance into captivity.
