How to help your world

A lot of people want to help. Admittedly, some don't much care. But it's heartwarming to see how many individuals and diverse private and governmental organizations spring into action around the world when a major disaster strikes. Literally millions have been beneficiaries of charitable efforts during times of earthquake, flood, famine, war.

Obviously, not everyone can rush to the scene. Many have found, instead, ways to use their talents in support of rescue and care efforts. Christian Scientists are often involved in various human efforts to help. But beyond these steps, metaphysicians see the power of scientific prayer as bringing invaluable aid to those who have been victimized. It's not unusual to find articles in this magazine by individuals who illustrate their application of effective prayer in times of tragedy.

Our occasional column "Perspective on the News" provides practical insight on how a metaphysician might approach the headlines. One who has a vision of God's supremacy, of His allness and oneness, is not intimidated by world events—even those that seem strongly threatening. Neither does he ignore those events. He brings to them his spiritual poise and conviction, recognizing that regardless of how aggressive evil would claim to be, God's goodness is never overruled.
