Christian Science was introduced to our family over fifty years ago by a physician who was treating my mother. She was subsequently healed of a nervous breakdown by relying solely on its teaching, and immediately thereafter we children were enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School. My continued study of this Science has been the most wonderful and rewarding thing in my life.

I relate the following healing in the hope that it will encourage others to rely steadfastly on divine Truth even if their problems are of long duration. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 410): "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love."

My faith was greatly tested over a period of many years by the recurrence of severe internal pain that incapacitated me for days at a time. Frequently I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. The pain was alleviated only to return some time later in a more aggravated form. On one such occasion, after I had spent several sleepless days and nights, my husband, who is not a Scientist, had his physician give me an injection to induce sleep. The doctor told me that the illness was due to gallstones and that I should undergo surgery to remove them. He left some pain-relief pills for my use.
