When I decided to join a branch church and The Mother Church...
When I decided to join a branch church and The Mother Church, I realized the need to overcome a longstanding smoking habit. For over two years I had tried unsuccessfully to overcome it through willpower. One morning after I finished studying the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, I picked up the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy and diligently studied the "Daily Prayer," which reads (Art. VIII, Sect. 4): "'Thy kingdom come;' let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!" The words "let" and "all" stood out to me.
After perhaps an hour, I closed the book and said aloud, "Now, dear Father, it is up to You." From that moment I have never again had the desire to smoke, and I thank God for His goodness, evidenced in this healing.
When I was still new to Christian Science, there was a large growth on my foot below the ankle. A family friend, who was a doctor, noticed this growth and suggested I have it removed at a hospital. But I declined, for I knew God would show me the way to genuine healing.
