One Saturday, our twelve-month-old daughter had symptoms...
One Saturday, our twelve-month-old daughter had symptoms of a cold and fever. We had seen similar cases with the older children healed quickly through Christian Science, so I was not alarmed, and neither was my husband, who left on a trip for the weekend. I prayed diligently to see the child in God's image, spiritual and perfect. However, after several hours, the condition appeared unchanged. So I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for the baby and for me.
The entire night was spent affirming God's allness and denying the possibility of the presence of evil. I sang hymns to the child from the Christian Science Hymnal. "Mother's Evening Prayer" by Mrs. Eddy(No. 207) was especially comforting. I spoke to her often, telling her of her absolute perfection as a child of God. I knew that God would heal the difficulty.
The baby's actions soon made me realize that I must specifically deny predictions that had been made at her birth. During the last weeks of my pregnancy high blood pressure had caused the attending physician much concern.
