There was a time in my life when I questioned God and Christian Science
There was a time in my life when I questioned God and Christian Science. Previously, I had found great comfort through this Science during a period when my marriage broke up, my children were seriously affected by drugs, and there were financial difficulties to be met. But I felt I had been placed in a mental wilderness of loneliness and frustration. I loved Christian Science too much to turn away completely, and I knew I had to make a decision about where to put my trust. Mrs. Eddy's clear statement (Science and Health, p. 392), "Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take," caused me to pause and examine the roots of my faith. I made the decision to follow God with all my heart.
My whole life has been revitalized. I emerged from the doubt and fear to a satisfying and fulfilling commitment to companion with God. My home now is full of peace. Progress is evident in overcoming false character traits. My family are making gains, and several of them have returned to the study of Christian Science—becoming members of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and having Christian Science class instruction. I have found rewarding employment and am joyously active in branch church work.
Several years ago I was healed of the effects of severe burn after falling asleep under a sunlamp. The pain was extreme, and I prayed to be obedient to the first commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3)—to accept no other power than God. The next day I was able to take care of all necessary business by holding firmly to this truth. The following day, Saturday, was spent in study of the Bible, Mrs. Eddy's writings, and in prayer. I thanked God for the healing truth expounded in these two books and for the opportunity to deepen my understanding of Truth. There was a joyous expectancy of good. I was comforted by the statement from our textbook, Science and Health (p. 412), "You may vary the arguments to meet the peculiar or general symptoms of the case you treat, but be thoroughly persuaded in your own mind concerning the truth which you think or speak, and you will be the victor."
