One time there was a painful condition in one shoulder, and I could not move my arm without discomfort. A Christian Science practitioner was called to help me realize my true nature as God's perfect child, untouched by inharmony. Within several weeks all pain was gone, and normal activity was resumed.
However, after about six months there was pain in my other shoulder. I affirmed that Christian Science heals permanently, as I recalled the truths expressed earlier by the practitioner. I earnestly prayed over Mrs. Eddy's answer to the question "What is man?" found on page 475 of Science and Health. The fact that man is not material but is made in the likeness of God and is therefore spiritual as well as perfect continued to keep my reasoning in line with what is true about my real being. The more I studied the Bible and Science and Health, the more freedom I received until the healing was complete.
Another time, while I was preparing a table to be painted, I slipped, and some of the primer splashed on my face and in my eyes. I couldn't open my eyes because of the burning sensation, but I immediately declared my perfection as the emanation of God by repeating "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health. It begins (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." And it ends with this line: "Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." Within a few minutes I could open my eyes, and a few hours later all redness had disappeared and I was fine.
