The economy and the demand for spiritual values

• A cut in the use of energy if the U.S. is to solve its energy crisis was called for on April 5 by President Carter. He also called upon oil companies and special interest groups to be more accountable and responsive to the public good.

• Countries around the world struggle with rising inflation rates fueled by escalating oil prices.

• Many African countries have a per capita annual income of less than one hundred dollars. In Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Haiti, and Mexico unemployment and underemployment run between 25 and 30 percent.
