The best city to live in
Sometimes newspapers have taken polls or conducted research to detect the best city to live in. Whether or not our address happens to be in one of the cities of high appeal—whether we live in a large metropolis or a small town (or right out of town), there's a city we can and should live in. The Bible calls it "new Jerusalem." Rev. 21:2; Regularly—even each day—we can and should confirm our residence there.
Mary Baker Eddy gives us this spiritual explanation: "New Jerusalem. Divine Science; the spiritual facts and harmony of the universe; the kingdom of heaven, or reign of harmony." Science and Health, p. 592; Certainly an infinitely more appealing city than any that can be given a latitude and longitude. How do we become a resident? Through spiritual acknowledgment. Through spiritually acknowledging that man is the idea of Spirit and lives in the "city" or consciousness of Spirit—lives under the "reign of harmony." And by letting our living be an outcome of this acknowledgment.
People respond with varying degress of enthusiasm to the city they live in—or to the whole concept of city living. We can bring the improving light of spiritual truth to whatever locality we find ourselves in. We can think in terms not of New York or Newcastle, but of New Jerusalem.
